Even the cold of winter can’t dampen Coney Island’s energetic atmosphere!

Every year, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club hosts its popular New Year’s Day Plunge — when daring souls don bathing suits and costumes to take a quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean for fun and charity.

With Coney Island Beach temps hovering near 40 degrees, more than 3,000 brave participants took the plunge Jan. 1, 2020, helping to raise over $60,000 for nine local Coney Island organizations, including the New York Aquarium, the Coney Island History Project, and the Alliance for Coney Island.

Although Ruby’s is normally closed for the winter season, we DO open every New Year’s Day for the plunge. Whether you plan to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge or just miss the boardwalk, visit Coney Island on Jan. 1 and swing by Ruby’s. We’ll warm you up!
